Wing Tsun kung-fu (pronounced "wing chun"), is a martial art originating in China about 300 years ago. It was reportedly invented by a woman who was an elder of the Shaolin Monastery. She was an expert in the kung-fu system of the Monastery but was getting older and she feared that her declining speed and strength would become a handicap, especially if the rebels who later betrayed the Shaolin Monastery were to become her adversaries on the outside. She began to develop a more economical system in movement and one which contained the most refined techniques of her Shaolin system.

WingTsun is not a sport. It is a martial art ideal for street self-defense and uses upright postures, low kicks and mobile footwork. WingTsun is low impact and there are no acrobatic movements such as spins, jumps or somersaults.
In self-defense, the force of an attacker is neutralized and borrowed to defeat him. Movements are economical and use straight lines. Only three forms (kuen) exist in WingTsun plus a set of movements on a wooden dummy in the advanced stages.

WingTsun's benefits include developing excellent general fitness and body tone, unique powers of concentration and excellent mental training, an outlet to counteract stress and extremely quick and ready-to-use skills for self-defense. A high level of fitness is not required to begin training. We get you in shape through your regular attendance.
WingTsun is of the authentic Yip Man lineage.
